The Vertical
Linear Time Column System
The premise of the both single and double systems is the analog progression
of blocks of light down the face of the columns designating the elapsed
time in five minute intervals.
Each column is divided into eleven equal segments.
This division simplifies segment recognition in that the viewer can visually
divide the total space in half (half way through the hour) and half
again (on the quarter hour).
On both Linear Time Column systems, Kinetos and Solos, the minute movements occur at five
minute intervals. For example, on the minutes column, the first five
minutes of every hour the entire face is dark. At five after the hour an illuminated square will appear at the top of the column
and descend down the face to the bottom designating the passage of one
hour. At each five minute interval, the square moves down one position
to the base where the cycle repeats. On the hour column in Kenitos,
changes occur on the hour starting at the top with one and progressing
to the bottom for eleven. At noon and midnight the square returns to
the half way point (sixth square) and has a distinctive color.
The single
system, Solos, is a fusion of the double system
, Kinetos into one column.
