Continuum Chess - dark gray crystal - clear crystal - etched and clear playing surface

board size 18" sq
limited edition

Continuum Chess is a sculptural alternative to traditional chess presentation. The concept is to provide a single modular sculptural form that can convey the six separate power structures designated by traditional chess game design. The strict orthographic board layout and piece movement allows the use of a three equal sided form derived from a cube. By arranging these forms on the playing board in specific fixed positions relative to their symbolic origins, they create a continuum of sculptural patterns which alter after each move.

The Pawn is the weakest and is placed on its back.
The Rook or Castle takes a house shape.
The Knight takes a horse shape.
The Bishop is in a confessional pew facing the side.
The King is the most protected, back to the play, on his throne - The king may also face the play.
The Queen is the most aggresive and upright
